Oracle/Sun Microsystems recently released an update version of the excellent virtual machine software called Virtualbox. But for some weird reason, I have been unable to either upgrade from the previous version or do a fresh installation in Windows XP, Vista Ultimate, Vista Home Premium 64-bit and Vista Business 64-bit . The installation always timed out midway through the file verification section and I got a “setup ended prematurely” error message. So far, the only way I was able to install the new version was to remove the old one first. So if you run into the same problem, uninstall the previous version before trying to install the new one.

I reinstalled 2.2.0, did the repair, and was then able to do an in place upgrade to 2.2.2
I tried to uninstall 2.2.0 so i could install 2.2.2 and it would not uninstall
If you are using the Windows Operating System ( I use Vista Business 64-bit), you may want to try the “repair” option first, before uninstalling. For some reason, the version 2.2.0 seems to have some corrupt file issues. When I initially tried to uninstall version 2.2.0, I kept getting errors, so I ran the 2.2.0 setup and chose the repair option. I then ran setup again and chose the remove option. Sometimes you may need to restart your computer after the repair phase. Hope that helps. The Virtualbox Forum is also a good place to find help.
