I have been using Windows 7 since the beta first appeared and recently did a clean install of the RC. I have to say, I am impressed. Faster boot and shutdown times, reasonable UAC application, refined eye-candy. I love what they did with the task bar. For example, if you have multiple browser or application windows open and hover your mouse over the browser or application icon you are able to jump to a specific window – and yes, it works for Firefox, flock, and opera too. Microsoft calls this “task bar thumbnail overflow” and it is neat.
There are other areas of improvement: networking, jump lists, device installation etc. More on those as we continue to explore the Operating System.
Maybe I am more forgiving of Widows 7 because I never really warmed up to Vista. But from the look of things so far, it may well be that Windows 7 will provide a graceful exit for the much maligned Vista.
